Our Glasgow site employs around 600 people, including a large number of graduates. There is an on-site subsidised cafeteria and a lively social scene that involves anything from cocktail-making classes to football tournaments – not forgetting the annual Christmas party, which is an event you cannot afford to miss. Transport links are excellent too. There are regular bus services and train and Subway stations are just a short walk from our offices. Hyndland and Partick are particularly popular residential areas among our graduates, although the Glasgow office is within easy commute from much further afield.
Quadrant House in London is the headquarters of Thales Transportation Services. It is situated close to St Katherine’s Dock and London Bridge, and all the attractions of Central London are right on our doorstep. There is a gym next door and a multitude of shops, pubs and restaurants in the immediate area – not to mention museums, theatres and the Tower of London. We also have our own social committee that organises regular activities from curry nights to beer festival trips for our 360 employees.
We’re a 10-minute walk from Tower Hill tube station and the mainline stations of London Bridge and Fenchurch Street are also close by. Our accessibility means Home Counties such as Kent, Surrey and Essex are easily commutable.
Thales Belfast is the base of some of our most high-tech and exciting defence programmes. The site has its own canteen and refreshment facilities, plus several breakout rooms. There’s also a local gym where many of our 420-plus employees receive discounts.
Our Society Working group is where employees arrange charity events, football competitions and even bun sales to support local community activities. Plus, we match all fundraising profits up to £250. We have close links to Senitus, the local STEM charity, and employees have been involved in judging ‘The Big Bang Northern Ireland’ awards too. Union membership is also available to all permanent employees and offers great benefits.
Many of our team choose to live in the university area of the city which includes the Titanic Quarter, Ravenhill or Ormeau. The main railway station is a 30-minute walk away and our site offers free parking as well as being close to the city’s airport and well-serviced bus routes.
Located in Stockport, Greater Manchester, Cheadle Heath is home to our Underwater Systems and Transportation Systems business areas. Approximately 480 people are based here and the site has a restaurant that serves both hot and cold food, plus a shop that provides everything from snacks and refreshments to basic medicines and greeting cards. There is also a drop off/pick up point for dry cleaning.
Employees at Cheadle Heath can join Dolphin clubs. Membership of these clubs entitles them to rent books and they receive discounts on various activities including theme park visits and theatre trips. Five-a-side football is a regular fixture and, if you fancy seeking out the bright lights of Manchester, you won’t go short of company.
The site is close to the M60, M56 and M6 with Cheadle station 1.5 miles away and Stockport station 2.5 miles away. The towns of Bramall, Stockport, Didsbury, Withrington and Chorlton are all within commuting distance.
Cambridge is the location of Thales e-Security. The site has refreshment facilities and its own kitchen, while there are numerous restaurants and shops nearby. Cambridge University Botanic Garden and the Cambridge Lakes Golf Course are also a stone’s throw away. Thales Cambridge has its own football team and site band and we hold a number of informal social events such as whisky tasting evenings.
Many of our 125 employees opt to live in central Cambridge, others in surrounding areas such as Trumpington, Royston, Cherry Hinton or Chesterson. Cambridge railway station is just a two-minute walk away and trains run directly to London. The site is served by several bus routes, there is a nearby park-and-ride facility and Cambridge airport is also close-by.
Long Crendon is home to our e-Security business and we have just over 80 employees based here. Oxford, Thame, Milton Keynes, Bicester and Aylesbury are all easily commutable via local busses and trains from nearby Haddenham & Thame Parkway.
Reading is home to Thales Research & Technology. Here, around 110 employees work on a wide range of future technology research projects including security, privacy and trust, machine vision and video analysis, navigation, positioning and tracking and wireless sensor and actuator networks.
There is a canteen on site, excellent facilities for conferences and a lively social and sporting scene. Five-a-side football, squash and badminton are all popular as are theatre trips and other social events.
Regular buses run between the office and Reading town centre. The suburbs of Earley, Caversham and Tilehurst are all within cycling distance and are also accessible by public transport.
Thales’s Bristol office is a small but strategic site. The site caters for more than 270 employees, has its own kitchen and refreshment facilities and is close to Bristol City centre and the University of the West of England. In addition to being historically significant for engineering – Isambard Kingdom Brunel carried out a lot of his work here – Bristol is a hub of culture, arts and leisure activities.
As a university town, rooms are fairly easy to find in the area and commuting is relatively easy to surrounding towns too. Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbeywood railway stations are less than a mile away and both are well-served by cycle routes and buses – on which Thales employees receive discount.
Our Westferry site, located in London, is the home for our Transportation business. A one-floor site with 138 employees and a large grad intake, everyone gets to know each other very quickly and the team has a real community feel to it. There is an on site cafe with fantastic views and the office is close to Canary Wharf Tube and DLR for easy commuting.
Crawley is our newest site and one of our largest, located on Manor Royal, employing nearly 1,900 people. On site, there is a canteen serving a variety of hot and cold foods and discounted Costa coffee shops to help you get your caffeine fix. This site has its own gym run by Nuffield Health. There is also a dry-cleaning service on site.
We have a high proportion of graduates and a thriving social scene thanks to societies catering for a diverse range of interests and the Crawley Leisure Club, which organises regular events.
The site is readily accessible from local towns and commuting by car takes 40 minutes from Brighton, 30 minutes from Croydon and 20 minutes from Horsham and Redhill. Three bus routes serve the site and a 15% discount is available to Thales staff on Metrobus monthly tickets. Gatwick Airport is also close by.
Weybridge is home to our Head Office and is where our CEO and Vice Presidents are based. Our offices here are equipped with kitchens, refreshment and shower facilities and a balcony which is very popular in summer. We’re just a five-minute drive from the centre of Weybridge where there is a whole array of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars. Weybridge is in the heart of leafy Surrey, so we are surrounded by parkland and the River Wey is nearby.
As well as Weybridge itself there are many other nearby locations from which to commute such as Woking, Walton, Esher, Cobham, Egham and Epsom. Weybridge and Addlestone railway stations are both easily walkable. Trains from Weybridge go directly to London Waterloo so living in the capital is feasible. There are also quite a few local bus routes that make getting to work easy.
Our Basingstoke site is home to some of the most high-tech and secure areas of our business, as well as our consultancy arm, Quintec. On-site, you’ll find a canteen, refreshment facilities, a general shop and a Costa coffee shop, although many of our 500-plus employees venture into the nearby Basingstoke town centre to enjoy the range of shops, pubs and restaurants there. Social activities revolve around the football team, walking group and our site band.
Accommodation can be found in local suburbs within Basingstoke such as Hatch Warren, Litchfield and Black Dam. Transport links are excellent – Basingstoke railway station is a 10-minute walk away, the site is serviced well by bus routes, and we’re very close to the A329 and M3. This makes towns such as Reading, Fleet, Winchester and Newbury commutable.
Templecombe is located in the beautiful Somerset countryside. The site has almost 700 employees, its own canteen and refreshment facilities, and is close to a gym and a mix of shops. We have our own sports and social club that organises football matches and other informal activities. Charity events are often held to support local schools too.
The surrounding towns include Sherbourne, Wincanton and Gillingham. Yeovil, Bristol, Bath and Salisbury are further afield but within commuting distance and Templecombe railway station is five minutes’ walk away and services run directly to Yeovil. Coastal towns such as Bournemouth and Poole are also an option for those who like to take in the sea air.
Located in the heart of Birmingham city centre, our Transportation division employs approximately 35 people, including engineers and commercial support staff specialising in telecommunication system design, passenger information system design and electrical design.
The site has an active extracurricular calendar with regular social events, and monthly lunch and learn sessions. And who could turn down the annual Thales Birmingham Formula One trip, which this year is to the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
